Get an early start on your day-trip to the beautiful Oregon coast in the Land of Umpqua on a drive with plenty to explore along the way. Start north of Roseburg at the Winchester Dam and Fish Ladder on the North Umpqua River. Catch an underwater look at Salmon and Steelhead through glass windows set below the water’s surface.
Venture west on Hwy #138 from Sutherlin, toward Elkton. Be sure to stop to see the Rochester Covered Bridge and the historical marker of Fort Umpqua. In Elkton, visit award-winning wineries and explore the Butterfly Pavilion and botanical garden.
Driving west along the main Umpqua River stopping at Dean Creek Elk Viewing Area just before Reedsport. Learn about coastal history at the Umpqua Discovery Center in Reedsport then head to Winchester Bay to see the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, Umpqua River Lighthouse and Museum.
On your way back to Roseburg spend your afternoon visiting some of the Land of Umpqua’s central area wineries. Follow the blue wine tour signs to experience indulgent wines and picturesque tasting room views.
